I also like the variegated types. I try to keep them over the winter in the basement, but usually they are not as dramatic when they bloom the second time around. I don't mind. They are usually smaller. But still beautiful.
Another amaryllis. I'm beginning to wonder who appreciates all this on this blog. I'm just beginning, so suppose I should be more patient.
Sometimes I'm doubting what to do, and thinking folks would rather just hear a lot of misery, from what I've read for at least nine years following them. I hope I don't ever resort to that. I'd rather fail. I choose to post positive, happy aspects of my life, and if folks want misery, they will have to look elsewhere. I hope you have a good night. Peace be with you.
I have two Amaryllis just beginning ti grow now ( I bought the bulbs at half price after Christmas ). Red Lion and Minerva. I had those last year as well and kept the bulbs, one of which is going dormant now at long last and the other seems to be staying as it is with its long leaves still as green as ever in spite of no watering.
ReplyDeleteI agree that some nice bright blooms in the middle of winter is very uplifting.
It takes a while until people get to know about a new blog I think. I hope you'll keep it up. It doesn't have to be every day ( My life is so ordinary I wouldn't know what to say if I felt I should post daily).
Thanks Granny Marigold for your insight. Appreciate your patience. I hope it all works out!
DeleteI like the idea of planting bulbs for a pop of colour in the Winter. When should they be planted to bloom at Christmas, I was thinking they might make a nice gift?
ReplyDeleteI would say maybe the 3rd week of November, although sometimes they take off really fast.

DeletePerfect time of year for a glorious spot of color!
ReplyDeleteI very much agree with keeping a positive attitude, both in life and blogging. Most of us need a lift rather than to be dragged down, so I think you've got the right idea!
I think Granny Marigold is right, it takes awhile for people to find a new blog, but they respond quickest by visits and comments, so you're on the right track. I find that there's an ebb and flow to visits and comments. Sometimes there are few visitors, and other times of year people are online and visiting more. Even so, a blog makes a wonderful journal. It's fun to look back later on and see what was happening then in your life.
That's a good way and attitude to approach this new thing for me. Thanks!
DeleteNo, no, don't doubt what you write about or post! It's your blog, for one thing, and even if we have something not-so-pleasant going on in our lives (and we all do at times), other than a possible rant to "get it out," we need more amaryllis beauty in our lives, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Leigh in that a blog makes a wonderful journal for yourself. Most folks will comment on your blog if you comment on theirs. My first year of blogging I had maybe two or three readers and commenters! Now I wish I had the time to read and comment more on all the wonderful blogs available. I do know I have some faithful readers who don't comment at all. So don't be discouraged. It takes time to build up a readership. Write what you want and continue to be a bright light shining with positive thoughts. And pictures!
Thanks so much!
DeleteOh my, I have a miserable cold...so I am not too cheerful lately, but I hope you will still visit! Your flowers are lovely:)
